US President Donald Trump has imposed a travel ban on citizens of 12 countries to the US on national security grounds.
Which countries will be affected by the ban?
According to the executive order signed by Trump, citizens of the following 12 countries are completely banned from traveling to the United States:
Afghanistan
Myanmar
Chad
Republic of Congo
Equatorial Guinea
Eritrea
Haiti
Iranian
Libya
Somali
Sudan
Yemen
Additionally, citizens of the following seven countries face partial travel restrictions:
Burundi
Cuba
Laos
Sierra Leone
Togo
Turkmenistan
Venezuelan
The new regulation will come into effect at 00:01 local time on Monday. This time, a transition period has been granted in advance to avoid chaos at airports like in 2017.
What is the reason for the ban?
The White House said the ban was a “rational measure” aimed at protecting Americans from “dangerous foreign actors.”
Trump said the incident “highlights the serious danger posed by inadequately vetted foreign nationals.”
How are the reactions?
Trump's executive order has been met with backlash from both domestic and international public opinion. It has been reported that legal objections are on the way.

Democratic lawmakers slammed the decision, with Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal saying: “This decision is an expansion of Trump’s first-term Muslim ban and will further isolate us on the world stage.”
House of Representatives member Don Beyer argued that Trump “betrayed the founding values of the United States.”
What happened in the previous ban?
Trump enacted his first travel ban in 2017, during his first year in office. The banned countries include Iran, Libya And Somali The decision was described as a "Muslim ban" because all seven countries on the initial list were Muslim-majority.
