Motorola Bends a Phone, and Debuts Smart Connect

Late last year at Lenovo’s Tech World event, Motorola unveiled a bendable concept phone called the Adaptive Display. I got a chance to play around with it at MWC. It looks and feels like its Razr folding phone, except instead of having a hinge that snaps the phone closed precisely in half, you can bend the whole thing backward. https://www.gadgetmatch.com/motorola-bendable-phone-concept/ It can rest on a table in this arched position, enabling two people sitting across from each other to use the screen. For example, two people can watch a movie together; I watched two people play a quick game of Connect 4. There’s also a magnetic band you can wear that the phone clips to—wrap the device over your wrist and now you have a smart bracelet (of sorts). The interface adapts to show information on the top part of the screen. It’s fun and wacky, but I have to admit it looks quite janky. Last year’s concept phone from Motorola was Rizr, which had a screen that rolled up to extend the disp...

NASA rethinks plan to return rare Mars samples to Earth

NASA is seeking innovative methods that could help retrieve samples collected by the Perseverance rover on Mars in the future. https://mars.nasa.gov/resources/26895/mars-sample-return-concept-illustration/ The rover, which landed on Mars in February 2021, has been gathering specimens from Jezero Crater, where an ancient lake and river delta once existed on the red planet. Scientists believe the samples could help them better understand whether life ever existed on Mars.                  The original design for the Mars Sample Return program, a partnership between NASA and the European Space Agency, was a complex one. The architecture involved multiple missions launching from Earth to Mars to collect the samples, and then conducting the first rocket launch from the surface of another planet to return the samples to Earth. However, there have been concerns about the program being too unwieldy due to complexity, expense, and delayed return date,...

It would have prompted devices to display a unique on-screen iOS animation when they were placed on the charging mat, as seen in Apple's early marketing materials. An ‌iPhone‌ on the ‌AirPower‌ charger would also have shown the charge of all of the devices that were placed on the pad. ‌AirPower‌ missed its original 2018 laun...
